The theft of 'The Scream' from an art gallery in Oslo in 1994 was one of the most audacious art heists of all time and certainly one of the most widely reported.  Byorn Grytal was one of the gang who staged the theft, on the day that the World's eyes were focused on the opening of the Lillehamer Winter Olympics in another part of Norway. The painting was recovered following a 'sting' operation organised by Scotland Yard.  After a fight in the Plaza Hotel, Oslo, Byorn Grytdal was arrested.  However, his conviction was later quashed as the false identities adopted by the British police officers rendered the evidence illegal in Norwegian law.
